Auburn Economic Development partners with Opelika to provide FuelAL summer intern experience

April 08 2024

AUBURN, Ala.- The City of Auburn’s Economic Development Department is partnering with the City of Opelika to provide FuelAL programming this summer for local college interns thanks to a grant from FuelAL, in partnership with Innovate Alabama — a talent attraction and retention program of the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama (EDPA).

Auburn-Opelika has been selected to participate in the initiative, which aims to showcase the state’s unique community assets. The program will provide students with professional development, service opportunities, mentorship and social events — focusing on opportunities available outside the workplace. Participants will learn how to serve, socialize and develop in the Auburn-Opelika community and will gain insight into what makes the area a good professional home.

“Each city's lineup is a testament to Alabama's commitment to cultivating a supportive and dynamic environment for our future leaders," said Miller Girvin, Chief Operating Officer at EDPA. "This summer will serve as a full-spectrum experience — professionally enriching and personally unforgettable.”

Along with local events and programs, participants will be eligible to connect with their peers during two statewide Summer Summits. These fun-filled weekends will help fuel relationships among the interns based throughout Alabama and provide industry exposure across the state. The summits are scheduled for June 28-30 and July 19-21.

This will mark Auburn’s second year offering a program for local interns through a partnership with FuelAL.

“The Auburn-Opelika community is ripe with opportunities for young professionals,” said Auburn Workforce Development Director Amy Brabham. “Whether you’re considering an internship in our community or have already secured one, we hope you’ll take advantage of this chance to begin growing roots and get connected.”

Those interested in participating in the program may apply online now through May 31. For more information, visit the EDPA website or contact Amy Brabham at abrabham@auburnalabama.org.
